Kayla Tsakalos | Citrus Rehab

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is the most common endocrine condition affecting women of reproductive age, but its impact extends far beyond irregular periods. PCOS can increase lifetime risk of cardiovascular, metabolic, and psychological conditions, including high blood pressure, insulin resistance, weight gain, anxiety, and depression.

The good news is that regular exercise is an effective way to manage PCOS symptoms and reduce the risk of long-term complications overall health.

PCOS is more than irregular periods—exercise plays a powerful role in reducing inflammation, improving metabolic health, supporting mental wellbeing, and lowering long-term cardiovascular risk across a woman’s lifespan.”

Exercise benefits PCOS by reducing inflammation, a key process underlying many symptoms and associated health risks. Combining aerobic and resistance training can help regulate menstrual cycles, improve insulin sensitivity, and enhance mood. Current guidelines recommend at least 150 minutes of moderate or 75 minutes of vigorous aerobic exercise weekly, plus two strength sessions. Progress gradually and consider guidance from an exercise physiologist for an individualised, sustainable plan long-term adherence.
